The first man Adam – After the earth is created, God forms man from the dust of the ground, and he becomes a living soul. The name of that man is Adam. God then planted a garden and called it Eden. He took the man and put him into the garden of Eden and commanded him to take care of it.
In the midst of the garden of Eden there were many trees, but there were two trees in particular that God addressed with Adam. First is the tree of life, and the second tree was the knowledge of good and evil. God told the man that he could eat of every tree of the garden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He was commanded not to eat from this tree and when he does, he will die.
The sleep – God put Adam into a deep sleep, took a rib from his side and gave him a wife. His wife’s name is called Eve because she is the mother of all living. Adam and Eve are both naked, but not ashamed. While still in the deep sleep, Eve is deceived by a serpent to eat from the tree that God commanded Adam not to eat from. Adam shared in the disobedience and ate from the tree as well.
When Adam disobeyed God’s commandment and ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, both of their eyes were immediately opened, and Adam and Eve’s thoughts entered into fear and hiding from God. They immediately knew that they were naked and covered themselves with fig leaves. Their perception of God completely changed after the knowledge of sin entered their consciousness. They now had the thoughts of sin and death, which is the carnal mind, and they didn’t know how to deal with it.
Adam sent from the garden – Adam now has a knowledge of nakedness and sin, but because he doesn’t understand it, God has to send him out of the garden of God to live in the earth that now has been cursed.
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
God made Adam and Eve coats of skin to cover them and drove them from the garden of God to live in flesh and blood through sin and death. He placed cherubims (living creatures) at the east of the Garden of Eden and a flaming sword which turned every way to keep the way to the tree of life. The protection of the garden was so that no sin could enter in and defile the tree of life. Man was now separated from God in body and mind; which is true sin and death.
The first man born – Adam and Eve had their first child, Cain, who was followed by their second child Abel. Cain was of the wicked one, and Abel was righteous.
The first murder – Cain and Abel brought an offering to the Lord. Cain’s offering was of the ground, and Abel’s offering was of the firstborn of the flock. God accepted Abel’s offering, but denied Cain’s. After Abel’s sacrifice was accepted by God and Cain’s wasn’t, Cain became very angry and killed his brother Abel.
Cain was marked by God and went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelled in the land of Nod. After that murder took place among man, wickedness began to increase in the earth.
Adam’s three sons – When Adam was removed from the garden, he had two sons, Cain and Abel. These sons will teach us the division of life and death, good and evil, light and darkness. They begin a truth in the earth that will always be present through the generations of man; a truth that wickedness will always war against righteousness.
- Cain – of the wicked one. 1 John 3:12
- Abel – righteous. Hebrews 11:4
- Seth – a son to replace Abel. Genesis 5:3
After Abel is killed, God gives Adam Seth, a third son to replace Abel. It’s in the generations of Seth’s seed line that Jesus would be born.
